Girard Andrew Gill, Sr.

Girard A. Gill, Sr., a former resident of Pinole, California, passed away at the age of 91 on December 9, 2011 in Frisco, Texas. Girard was born on September 10, 1920 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Girard was a multitalented, friend to many, and self taught geology buff and rock collector. He also enjoyed sailing in the San Pablo and San Francisco Bays. He served in the US Navy for six years during the Second World War He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, belonged to the Pearl Harbor Society and attended many of their functions. These functions included Hawaii, San Diego and going to the top of Mount Diablo with his sons, Gary and Richard on Veteran’s Day on many occasions. Girard was a gas serviceman for PG&E. He belonged to many clubs including Pinole Historical Society and the San Pablo Gem and Mineral Society. Girard is survived by his daughter, Lynda Carr of Capitola, California; sons, Gary Gill and Richard Gill of Pinole, California, Ted Gill of Point Richmond, California, Dan Gill of Frisco, Texas; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Elwood Larson officiating. A visitation will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
