IN LOVING MEMORY

Gerald (Jerry) Christian Jensen

Jan 12 1939 - Oct 08 2009

Gerald (Jerry) Christian Jensen, 70, passed away on October 8, 2009, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Jerry was born on January 12, 1939, in a family farmhouse in Askov, Minnesota to the late Harry and Helen (Vickre) Jensen. The family settled in Seattle when Jerry was six years old. After graduating from Highline High School in 1957, Jerry attended the University of Washington and worked at Boeing before starting a 47- year insurance career. After four years at State Farm, Jerry went to work for Fireman’s Fund, where his hard work earned him a promotion to Dallas in 1970 and eventually the title of Vice President. Jerry’s desire to be his own boss led him into the insurance brokerage business, and he opened a Fort Worth - based agency, BeneMarc, in 1976. He later moved the agency to Dallas under the name of The Jensen Company, where he remained active until his death. Jerry will be fondly remembered by associates and clients as a man who spoke the truth and delivered the hard news, even if it meant he would not win the business. “I don’t make it up; I just report it” was one of his trademark phrases. “Book It, Danno” was another favorite. In his younger days, Jerry enjoyed water skiing and fishing. Boating and seashell collecting were favorites when he owned a beach home, and golfing and games of gin were his most recent hobbies. He loved hanging with his buddies at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, and was a well known fixture in the men’s card room. He loved the fact that the guys wouldn’t “let” him win even after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Wendy Sue. He is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Linda Jensen, of Frisco; son, Rusty Jensen and wife Dawn, of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Kim Fowler and husband Kent, of Coppell; Paige Poletes and husband George, of Dallas; two step-daughters, Krystal Shipp and husband Monty, of McKinney; Ashley Johnson and husband Fancy, of Gunter; and one sister, Dodie Potas and husband Ron, of Wayzata, MN. Survivors also include three grandchildren, Audrey, Amelia, and Jackson; as well as eight step-grandchildren, Tori, Kelley, Avery, Preston, Tanner, Tyson, Jewel, and Parker. The family will receive visitors from 6:30-8:30 PM on Monday, October 12, 2009, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco. Funeral services will be held at Farmers Branch Church of Christ at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco. The family will have a celebration of Jerry’s life at the Jensen home immediately following graveside services. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Farmers Branch Church of Christ, 3035 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75234, or to the charity of your choice.
