George Bernard Smyers

George Bernard Smyers, age 72 of Plano, Texas passed away January 1, 2010. He was born on June 30, 1937, in DuBois, Pennsylvania to Dr. Bernard E. and Violet Mae Smyers. George graduated from the University of Miami. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was married to Gay Marlene Shook Smyers and their home was in Miami, Florida before the family relocated to Plano, Texas in 1975. George and Gay celebrated 51 years of love and happiness this year. George worked in the trucking industry as a rental and sales marketing manager for Ryder Systems, Bright Trucking, Saunders Trucking and Budget Trucking along with Mobile Mini. He retired in 2002. George was a member of Custer Road United Methodist Church of Plano, Texas. He was also a Mason and Shriner. He loved the ocean and had a great love for traveling and enjoying his family. George was a loving father to his children, daughter and son-in-law Kimberly Wayne Godbey; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Angela Smyers. He also had four grandchildren who he also loved dearly, Jennifer Godbey Thorndike, Jason Godbey, Dana Smyers and Greg Smyers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Custer Road United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
