George J. Rund, age 85, of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away June 26, 2008, at home. George was born December 20, 1922 in Okarche, Oklahoma, to Valentine and Marie (Jacobs) Rund. He married Rita Berntsen on May 22, 1956, in Loyal, Oklahoma. George was a farmer in Van Alstyne where he was fondly known as the cantaloupe and vegetable man. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne. He is survived by his wife, Rita Rund of Van Alstyne, Texas; sons, Larry Rund and wife, Maureen of McKinney, Texas and Terry Rund and wife, Shelly of Plano, Texas; daughters, Cindy Oudshoorn and husband, Michael of Forney, Texas, Kathy Stephan and husband, Rick of Dallas, Texas and Rochelle Genn and husband, Zeb of Van Alstyne, Texas; grandchildren, Robert, Kevin, Rebecca, Shane, Scott, Sarah, Kelsey, Megan, Zabrina, Taylor, Jessica, and Austin; brothers, Bill Rund and Jack Rund, both of Okarche, Oklahoma and Tom Rund of Post Falls, Idaho; sisters, Annie Myers, Loretta Rund, Bonnie Rund and Helen Henderson, all of Okarche, Oklahoma, Rita Adams of Anchorage, Alaska, Jo Shults of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and Curly Uland of Carrollton, Texas; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Marie Rund, brothers, Bud Rund and Paul Rund, and sister, Margie Vogel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne, Texas with Father Steven Bierschenk officiating. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM, Sunday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne.
