George Thomas Heeney, age 48, of Allen, Texas, passed away August 9, 2011, in Allen. George was born March 29, 1963, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to George and Theresa (Healy) Heeney. He married Karen Lyn Poyner on October 8, 1988, in San Diego, California. In his early twenties, George was a volunteer firefighter for the Parsippany Fire Department. He served his country for nine years in the United States Navy as a rescue swimmer. He was also a First Lieutenant in the Army National Guard and served as a tank commander. George was an engineer in the telecommunications field. He is survived by his wife, Karen Heeney of Allen, Texas; son, Patrick Heeney of Allen, Texas; daughter, Lauren Heeney, also of Allen, Texas; sisters, Cathy Allen and husband, Don, Patricia Heeney and husband Jim Toomey, and Eileen Howell and husband, Pete; mother, Theresa Heeney; and many other loving family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas with Pastor Tom Palmer officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m, Saturday evening with a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
