George R. Gilbert

George R. Gilbert, age 65, of McKinney, Texas passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012. He was born February 17, 1947 in Alexandria, Louisiana to parents Vaughn Grant and Dorothy Beck Gilbert. On October 29, 1971, he married Carla Friski in Baltimore, Maryland. George proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Vietnam for 18 months. While in the Army he transported supplies across hostile lines and maintained military vehicles. He was also assigned to the Vet Corp during his tour of duty. After returning to the States, he transported dignitaries, and drove for President Lyndon B. Johnson’s funeral. In 1976, George became a member of the Masonic Lodge while stationed in Germany. He was employed with the Plano Police Department where he retired after 15 years. Following his employment with Plano, he worked for the Frisco Police Department for approximately one year. He was also a member of the McKinney VFW.

George is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Carla Friski Gilbert of McKinney, Texas; daughters Helen Wilson (husband Curtis Wilson) of Lexington, Virginia, Leigh Price of McKinney, Texas, and Susan Alatzas (husband Ari Alatzas) of Aubrey, Texas; mother, Dorothy Beck Gilbert of Plano, Texas; aunt Jerry Beck of Mansfield, Louisiana; sisters Evelyn and Sherry; brother, Ronald; grandchildren, Leigh Marie, Elizabeth, Ashleigh, Natilee, Willow Anastasia and Samuel.

 George is preceded in death by father, Vaughn Grant Gilbert and sister, Yvonne Hall.

 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas, with Pastor John Wilks officiating.
