George Winfield Gharis age 73 of Garland, Texas passed away August 8, 2011 in Garland. He was born August 7, 1938 to John and Dorothy (Joiner) Gharis in Fort Worth, Texas. George was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He married Margaret (Ferris) Gharis on November 27, 1971 in Laredo, Texas. George was of the Christian faith and a member of United Disciples Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Richardson, Texas. He loved reading, gardening, and watching dirt track racing and really enjoyed spending time with his family. George is survived by his wife, Margaret of Garland; daughters, Heather Jones and husband Kirby of Prosper, Texas and April Chamberlain and husband Chris of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Bryden Jones and Tanten Jones of Prosper, Texas, and Caleb Chamberlain of Fort Worth, Texas; brothers, Bob Gharis and wife Betty of Mineral Wells, Texas, Gene Gharis and wife Judy of Sherman, Texas and Leroy Gharis and wife Rachel of The Colony, Texas; step mother, Carolyn Gharis of Garland, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at United Disciples Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)ocated at 601 East Main Street, Richardson, Texas with Rev. Joe Harper officiating. An inurnment will be held at the DFW National Cemetery at a later date.
