Geneva C. Welsh, age 64, of Allen, Texas, passed away July 12, 2013, in Allen. Geneva was born August 19, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Eugene Lloyd and Georgia Mae (Ward) Comer. She married John Michael Welsh on July 27, 1974, in Dallas, Texas. Geneva grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1966. She went on to earn a bachelor and master degree in Special Education from Texas Women’s University. Geneva worked as a special education diagnostician for the Collin County Special Education Cooperative. She enjoyed singing, cooking, traveling, and was an avid reader. Geneva especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. After her retirement, she enjoyed working with Senior Citizens in many facets. She was also on the scholarship committee for AREA (Allen Retired Educators Association) where she helped generate scholarships for Allen students.
She is survived by her husband, John Welsh of Allen, Texas; son, Colin Welsh and wife, Andrea of Highland, Illinois; sister, Bea Parkhouse of Alpharetta, Georgia, grandchildren, Aislyn Welsh, Keagan Welsh, and Brennan Welsh, all of Highland, Illinois; and a host of other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved grandmother, Alberta Renshaw, and her son, Shad Michael Welsh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas. Entombment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
