Geneva Hendrix (Cure) Venable

Geneva Hendrix (Cure) Venable passed away on January 29, 2013. Geneva, of Plano, Texas was born October 15, 1917 in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Geneva moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where she grew up with her mother, father and four sisters. She met Master Sergeant Harold Reeson Cure in Little Rock and was united in marriage to Sergeant Cure on December 5, 1942 at Asbury Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. They had one daughter, Beverly Ann (Cure) Gatewood.

Geneva’s occupation was a casualty insurance underwriter for Fausett and Co. in Little Rock. Years later she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, T.C. (Tollie) Venable of Houston, Texas. Geneva and Tollie were united in marriage on August 3, 1974 in Little Rock.

Geneva was devoted to her daughter, family members and her friends. She loved animals all of her life and lovingly cared for her pets throughout her life. She loved growing indoor and outdoor plants of any kind and could grow anything! Her family looked forward each year to her Annual Christmas Eve Party at her home where she gathered her family together, decorated her home and made a wonderful meal for all. She liked sports of all kinds and was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. She did Exquisite needlepoint pictures and pillows and Christmas stockings. Once winning a blue ribbon for First Place in the State Fair of Texas for a handmade needlepoint Christmas stocking. Geneva was a twice breast cancer survivor. She was a lifelong member of Asbury Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir.

Her parents, T.J. Hendrix and Ada Owens Hendrix, her twin sister, Jeanette Hood, her sister Lela Dashiell, her sister Coreen Rogers Smith, nephew Tom Rogers and her sister Minnie Bethany precede her in death. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Beverly Ann Cure Gatewood and her husband, Walter Andrew Gatewood of Plano, Texas; grandson Michael Lee Gatewood of Portland, Oregon; granddaughter Terri Lynn Carney and her husband Alan Carney of The Colony, Texas; great-grandchildren, Courtney Paige Gibson and Hailey Nichole Gibson, great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kaytlyn Carney of The Colony, Texas; niece Lela Shipman and husband, Richard Shipman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; nephew Bill Dashiell and wife, Pam Dashiell of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; Ellen Rogers, Widow of nephew Tom Rogers of Little Rock, Arkansas and many long time friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Senior Select Home Healthcare Team and DaySpring Assisted Living for all they have done to make Geneva’s life more comfortable and for their endless support and care.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Saturday evening, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
