Garry Don Mead

Funeral services for Garry Don Mead will be conducted Thursday, July 10th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard, Texas at 701 N. Cedar St. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Garry Don Mead was born March 21, 1940 in Leonard, Texas to Webb Watson Mead and Eva Dean Murrell Mead. He departed this world on July 7, 2008. Garry moved to Ft. Worth as a young boy and took great pride in his North Side roots. He graduated from North Side High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Arlington State College, and completed his Master’s coursework in Psychology at TCU while also serving in the United States Air Force. Garry then had a long and rewarding career as a Rehabilitation Counselor and retired from both the Texas Rehabilitation Commission (Vocational Rehabilitation Division) and also from the Texas Commission for the Blind. Garry's love of old classic cars, the cowboy lifestyle, Civil War history and golf filled his retirement. He was a strong, independent person, passionately loyal to family and friends, and always cherished their love. Garry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Brenda Mullen. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Alissa and Ron McCain; brother-in-law, Glen Mullen; niece, Melyn Thompson and her children, Tyler Mead and Harleigh Kay; and other family and friends who will miss him dearly, including Melissa Thomas, devoted assistant; and lifelong friends, Robert and Sandra Wortham, whose unselfish love was truly one of Garry’s greatest blessings.
