Fred Rau

Fred Rau (Uncle Fritz), age 88, of McKinney, TX passed away peacefully at home, January 18, 2009. Born on June 6, 1920, in Valley City, ND to Frederick Albert and Ruth (Littlehales) Rau. He graduated “Class of ‘44” from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific. On May 6, 1945, he married Lois Steinhoff in New York City, NY at the “Little Church Around the Corner”. His marketing career began with Yale and Towne in Phila, PA. It extended through Eaton Corp., and several subsidiaries, ultimately retiring, after 40 years, in Salt Lake City, UT. Fred and Lois enjoyed nearly 20 years of retired life there until moving to McKinney in 2004 to be closer to family. He was a member of the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club and particularly enjoyed golf and travel. He was an avid sports fan and had a wonderful sense of humor. Fred was an entertainer at heart and always the life of the party. His warmth and generous spirit will always remain in our hearts. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois; son, Ronald “Rusty” Rau of Abilene, TX; daughter, Kim Spry and her husband, Mike of Allen, TX; nephew John Jones and his wife, Julie of Marietta, GA; brother, Douglas L. Rau of Bemidji, MN; many nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Donald W. Rau and Jon L. Rau. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, McKinney, TX.
