Florene S. Oakry, age 96, of McKinney, Texas passed away February 20, 2008 in Irving, Texas. She was born June 5, 1911, in Daingerfield, Texas, the daughter of Robert and Melissa (Franklin) Simmons. She was raised in Daingerfield, Texas where she was a member of Mt. Zion Church. She married Samuel D. Everett 1926 and she married W. H. Oakry in 1930. She moved to McKinney in 1942 where she joined St. James C.M.E. Church. She served as Church Mother, ushered for many years and had a perfect attendance for over fifty years. Mrs. Oakry worked for Collin County National Bank for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Tutson of McKinney; granddaughter, Brenda Dunlap; great-grandchildren, Philicia Dunlap of Carrollton, Stachia Dunlap of Dallas and Quinten T. Fleming of McKinney; great-great-grandchildren, Bria Samone Dunlap, Damone Johnson Jr, Kiana Bruce and DaNaysha Jones. She was preceded in death by her son, John L. Everett; and daughter, Vernell Everett. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 23, 2008 at St. James C.M.E. Church in McKinney with Rev. Winston Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
