Florence Ethel Neville

Florence Ethel (McBride) (Rinard) Neville, age 85, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Oceanside, California, passed away July 31, 2005. She was born December 18, 1919, in Burlington, Illinois to Ralph Ransom and Ada Elvira (Chapman) McBride. After her early school years in Illinois Florence moved to Indiana where she graduated from Akron Indiana High School in 1937. Florence earned her degree in teaching from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She then taught grade school in Argos, Indiana for six years. Florence married the late Ralph Jr. Rinard of Argos, Indiana at Christian Church, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1942. After starting a family together, they moved from Indiana to Arcadia, California. Florence was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school and played the piano. They were blessed with four daughters. In 1967, at the age of 47, Florence became a widow and returned to the workforce. She was employed as a retail sales associate (linens) for Hinshaw's Department Store, Arcadia, California. Florence married Richard R. Neville, formerly of Spokane, Washington, in 1971, with whom she spent the rest of her life. They moved to Oceanside, California in 1975. Together they enjoyed many travel adventures, spending much of their time fishing in Canada. A skilled fisherwoman, Florence was fearless when it came time for hook removal and frequently caught the majority of the day’s catch. “Flo”, as she was sometimes called, was a Bridge enthusiast and looked forward to weekly games with her girlfriends. She also enjoyed swimming, reading, and crossword puzzles. Artistically inclined, Florence leaves behind some fine oil paintings from her collection. She also had a talent for sewing, knitting and crafts as evidenced by her many wonderful handmade gifts. An excellent cook, Florence was known for her delicious meals, including the ever-popular “Carefree Casserole”, which lives on in the households of many who knew her. Her delectable desserts and many holiday treats are favorites as well. Loved by all who knew her, Florence will always be remembered for her cheerful disposition, positive outlook on life, as well as her thoughtfulness and concern for others. Though deeply missed, she touched many lives and her warm presence will continue to live on in our hearts forever. Besides her husband Richard, Florence is survived by daughter, Susan K. (Tom) Monaghan of McKinney, Texas; daughter Rhonda L. Rinard of Pasadena, California; stepson Greg (Debbie) Neville of Encinitas, California; and two other daughters; seven grandchildren, including Kevin Monaghan of McKinney, Texas, Brian Rinard of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Rachel Rinard; three step grandchildren, Jesse, Andrew and Becky Neville, all of Encinitas, California, all of whom loved their grandmother dearly. Florence also leaves behind a sister, Jeanette (Harold) Irwin of Woodstock, Illinois and a brother, Clifford Chapman McBride of Elgin, Illinois; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Elliott) Ehrenberg of Rancho Cucamonga, California; niece, Nancy Irwin of Woodstock, Illinois; nephew, Richard (Joye) Irwin of Kalaheo, Hawaii; niece, Jean (Bob) Warfel of Hampshire, Illinois; She is further survived by many stepnieces and nephews; also grandnieces and nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Besides her first husband, Ralph, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Charles Benjamin McBride; also preceding her is a sister-in-law, Shirley (Cliff) McBride; sister-in-law Joan (Dal) Vander Meer; nephew, John McBride and grandnephew, Benjamin Warfel. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Chaplain Garry Higgs officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
