Fern A. Mathews

Fern A. Moore Mathews, beloved wife, mother, sister, great grandmother and aunt lost her 4th valiant battle with cancer Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 9:25 p.m.  Fern had a successful career working in the Admitting Department of St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.  After retiring, she and Carl moved to Allen, Texas to be close to family.  In Texas, she continued to develop a successful business selling Avon and was dubbed the Avon Queen.  She made Avon’s President’s Club many years running.  Fern’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by her family and her wide family of friends. 

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Carl R. Mathews of Allen, Texas; sons, Martin R. Mathews and his wife, Barbara L. Mathews of Allen, Texas, Gary L. Mathews and his wife, Lynn Mathews of Wylie,  Texas; granddaughters, Tiffany M. Garland of Wylie, Texas, Heather Lott of Farmersville, Texas; grandsons, Dustin R. Mathews of Forney, Texas and Eric Holt of Wylie, Texas; sisters, Linda Osborne of Ft. Worth, Texas, Norma Sparks of Cerro Gordo, Illinois, Marcella Lenhardt of Lincoln, Illinois, Valera Moore of Blue Mound, Illinois; brothers, Viron Moore of Decatur, Illinois; 10 great grandchildren, multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Max Moore of Urbana, Illinois and Orville Moore of Blue Mound, Illinois.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas with the Reverend James Woelmer of her home church, Faith Lutheran in Plano, Texas presiding. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening, October 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations be made in her honor to the American Cancer Association.
