IN LOVING MEMORY

Everett Davis "Dave" Steffey

Nov 09 1939 - Mar 25 2012

Dave was born November 9, 1939 in Bradford, Arkansas.  He died on March 25, 2012 after a long illness from emphysema and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Over the past year, especially, as his health declined, Dave has received so many acts of kindness it has truly been a blessing for him and his family.  Dave was predeceased by his mom and dad Wilma and Everett Steffey, and two sisters, Mona and Cheryl.  He is survived by his three sons, Allen, John Mark, and Eric, two brothers, Clark and Johnny, and sister, Sara. Dave was also very proud to recognize and boast of his seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  His legacy clearly, lives on.  He will be missed by his many friends and family and particularly, his best friend and partner, Mary.  We all, loved him.

Dave lived in Arkansas, South Bend, Indiana, France, New Jersey and he settled eventually in Plano.  His career, following military service in Europe was with MCI.  After his retirement from MCI, he vigorously pursued his lifelong love affair with aviation.  He and Mary moved to Aero Country Airport and he opened his business, "Steffey Aviation, Flight Training, Maintenance and Annual Inspections".  He introduced and taught dozens, perhaps hundreds of young people to become General Aviation Pilot's, and to become certified with Commercial and Instrument ratings.  He was a crotchety and cantankerous old Hangar Bum, and considered himself, an authority on everything.  His Hangar and residence was centrally located on the airport and served as a gathering place for dozens of his friends who'd been lucky enough to share a cockpit with him at sometime in their lives.  One of Dave's greatest joy's was the huge, annual air show in Oshkosh Wisconsin.  Many of his friends would go with him or meet him there.  In his mind, he was always the "Pilot in Command".

A memorial service is planned for 2 pm Saturday, March 31st at Lifepointe Fellowship Church, 6374 CR 161, McKinney TX, 75071.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lifepointe Fellowship Church, the National Emphysema Foundation, The American Lung Associationwww.lung.org or the charity of your choice.  Dave's family and friends are sure that any of these would be appreciated
