Eunice Nicols Dersch

Eunice Nicols Dersch, age 91, passed away on October 21, 2013, in McKinney, Texas.  She was born August 7, 1922, in Baltimore, MD. Eunice married John S. Dersch on October 26, 1946, in Baltimore. In 1956, they moved from El Paso to Lubbock. She worked as a secretary for Gulf Oil Co. and at Second Baptist Church before launching her own ceramic hobby business.  In 1978, the Dersches moved to Midland, but returned to Lubbock in 1992 to enjoy their retirement years.  They enjoyed serving the Lubbock community, and celebrated their 60th Anniversary in 2006.

 

Eunice was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where among her many responsibilities and interests, she was active in the Mariner’s Sunday School Class, as a Stephen Minister and as a member of the handbell choir and as a member of the Allegro Music Club.  She was an avid bridge player and member of several bridge clubs.  Eunice was also a member and President for the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, earning a special honor for 50 years of service. She and her husband were both active in community service throughout their time in Lubbock.  

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dersch; son-in-law, Lennie Day; grandchildren, Sara, Andrew, Jeff, Amanda, Stephen; great-grandchildren; two nephews and a host of friends who loved her dearly. 

Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John S. Dersch; son, John, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Day, and sister, Carolyn.  

Interment with her beloved husband John, will be held at a later date.  The family suggests memorials be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3321 33rd St., Lubbock, TX 79410 in her memory.
