IN LOVING MEMORY

Eula Mae Lewis

Apr 21 1924 - May 05 2014

Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Eula Mae Zachary Lewis passed away on May 5, 2014 in McKinney, TX at the age of 90. Eula was born into the family of Jim Zachary and Maudie Pearl Huddleston Zachary on April 21, 1924, in Branch, TX.  On September 16, 1938, Eula Mae married Johnnie Horace Lewis in McKinney, Texas and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family in 1988.  Upon Johnnie’s death in 2000, Eula Mae was widowed after 62 years of marriage. Johnnie and Eula Mae’s family grew to include four children. Soon Eula Mae discovered the true gift and passion in her life, her 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren! For over 55 years, the pinnacle of her life was the annual Christmas Eve celebration that she hosted in her home. There, her kiddos, family members and friends of the family feasted at a table fit for a king and exchanged stacks of gifts.  Never was she as happy as she was on these special nights!

In 1958, she and Johnnie started their business, and eventually sold it, entering retirement in 1980.  Eula Mae possessed an incredible work ethic. After the great depression stripped the assets from her family, she vowed never to return to this life style. She worked, scrimped, saved, and did without to make ends meet. Long before the “positive thinkers” of this era arrived on the scene, Eula Mae never allowed negative thinking to rule her day.  She honestly believed an individual could accomplish any goal, just get up and do it!

From the fishing trips to Port Aransas, weekends camping at Lake Texoma, traveling with brother and sister-in-law Leeton and Big Louise, plus extended family Ty and Lucille, they were a virtual Rat Pack of travel and adventure.

For over 50 years, Eula Mae was a faithful member of Meadows Baptist Church in Plano. Until recently she was active in Meadows and always looked forward to being escorted to the Annual Deacon’s Banquet by her son-in-law, Deacon Jimmy Francis.

She is survived by her best friend ever and sister-in-law Big Louise Scott Zachary; daughters, Jurline Lewis Dauwalder (Rick) of Culeoka, TX, Betty Louise Lewis Maloney (Kenneth) of Bonham, TX, Cathy Joan Lewis Francis (Jimmy) of Garland, TX; son, Johnny Glenn Lewis (Sharon), Murphy, TX; tweleve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

Eula Mae was preceded in death by her husband, parents, all seven siblings, Lenny Parker, Gladys Whitaker, Clayton (Tator) Zachary, Edgar Zachary, Theo Zachary, Hazel Jackson, and her beloved brother, Leeton Zachary.

On behalf of Jurline, Betty Louise, Johnny Glenn, Cathy, and all of our extended families, thank you for sharing in this celebration of our beloved Mother. We will all miss her.

The family wishes to acknowledge the care and love showered on our mother by the staff of Stonybrook Memory Care of McKinney, and to the incredible hospice staff, Winifred Chege, Latoya Tilley and Sharonda Johnson.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
