Eugene Harrington, age 89, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on May 17, 2014. He was born October 9, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio to Sherwood and Lillian (Kirkpatrick) Harrington. On October 9, 1948, he married Sunny Harrington in Phaebus, Virginia. Gene grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, where he graduated from high school in 1943. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict; he retired from the military after 20 years of service. Following his military career, Gene was then employed with the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 20 years of service as well. Gene and Sunny loved to travel after retirement. They traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe; they loved to take cruises. Gene attended Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church of Allen.
He is survived by a son, Gene Harrington, II and wife Janet of Fairview, Texas; daughter, Becky Dean and husband David of Denver, Colorado; granddaughters, Kristi Dean and Kelsey Dean also of Denver, Colorado; sister, Faira Dahman and husband Bill of Youngstown, Ohio.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Sherwood and Lillian Harrington; wife, Sunny Harrington; their daughter, Karen Harrington; and sister, Betty Bender.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas.
