Eugene Lloyd Combs, age 87, of Plano, Texas, passed away May 26, 2011 in Plano, Texas. He was born on September 9, 1923, in Ames, Iowa, to William Henry and Romola (Ham) Combs. On December 21, 1946, Gene married his wife Nell Mead Combs, in Big Spring, Texas. He grew up in Iowa where he attended schools and helped on the family farm; Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and proudly served his country during World War II; while serving he was a prisoner of war for 45 days toward the end of the war; after being honorably discharged, he worked in sales in various industries until his retirement in 1989; Gene enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Nell Combs of Plano, Texas; children, Candyce Combs Clendenin of Sun City, Arizona, Carol Combs Truelove of Plano, Texas, Constance Combs of Phoenix, Arizona, Christopher Eugene Combs of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Julianne Combs Bolin of Waco, Texas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Johnson of Athens, Ohio; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Jonathan William Combs.
