Esteban Rafael Egea

Professor Emeritus Esteban R. Egea passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his residence in Plano, Texas, due to complications from lung cancer. He was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on June 1, 1938. He received a B.A. from the Universidad Pedagogica del Caribe, a M.A. from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literature from Harvard University. His 33-year teaching career in Language and Literature, included Ohio State University, Emory University and the University of Texas at Dallas. Preceded in death by his loving parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife Myrna, daughters Leonor and Verónica, step-son Michael, granddaughters Maya Rose, Jessica, Michelle and Timberly, great-grandson Alan, sons-in-law Julian and Juan Carlos, daughter-in-law Natelia. His life was dedicated to bridging differences among people and languages. Esteban will be remembered for his great humanity and devotion to his family, friends, and students. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Drive, Plano, Texas 75075. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
