Erwin Michael "Mike" Ghormley

Erwin Michael “Mike” Ghormley, age 74, of Allen, Texas, passed away February 14, 2015, in McKinney, Texas. Mike was born November 11, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, to Ewing Marvin and Dessie Maye (Hill) Ghormley. He married Kathryn June Burton on August 28, 1964, in Allen, Texas. Mike grew up in Dallas graduating from W. W. Samuel High School in 1959. Mike "Red" proudly served in the United States Air Force Combat Control Unit and retired with the rank of Staff Sgt. He served from January 1960 to May 1967. Mike was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mike earned a B.A. in Accounting degree in 1971 from the University of Texas in Arlington. In 1972, he began working in the accounting department for Mobil Oil Corporation, retiring in 1993.

Mike had a benevolent nature about him, which was demonstrated in his volunteer work at the Bonham VA hospital, his visitation of wounded servicemen (both active and veteran) across the states, and his willingness to aid anyone at anytime. He would visit, recite poetry, and play the piano. He felt that a stranger is just a friend that he had not yet met.

Mike was a member of West Allen Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for over 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, June Ghormley of Allen, Texas; daughters, Darla Bartlett and husband, Daniel of Princeton, Texas and Kristi Riddle and husband, Brent of Chaska, Minnesota; son, Evan Ghormley and wife, Amy of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Joshua Bartlett, Danniele Bartlett, Emma Riddle, and Ethan Riddle; great-grandson, Jaxson Gogolin; sisters, Genile Samdal of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Renee Caulfield of Pottsboro, Texas; brother, Rodney Ghormley of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expwy. North, Allen, Texas, 75013. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
