Ernest Elvin Wood

Mr. Ernest Elvin Wood age 90, of McKinney, Texas formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away on August 18, 2004, in Sherman, Texas. He was born on September 28, 1913 in Rogers, Texas to Ernest and Rebecca (Barron) Wood. He married Judith E. Archambeau on August 28, 1937, in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Wood was reared and educated in Wichita Falls, Texas, leaving there in 1931. After leaving, he was employed by Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Margo’s in positions ranging from department manager to store manager. His entire career was in the retail shoe business. In 1949 he returned to Wichita Falls and entered the shoe business with his own store. He was very fortunate, by the time he retired in 1976 he had owned three stores and three leased departments. His best venture was “Wood’s Shoes-Parker Square” in Wichita Falls, Texas, a truly fine family store. He operated this store from 1954 until June 1976. During his career he belonged to various trade organizations and was also a life member of the Texas Tech University Dad’s Club and served as first vice president in 1971. In 1981 he and his wife moved to McKinney, Texas in order to be somewhat closer to their children. He and his wife, Judith were members of the First Christian Church. Mr. Wood is survived by his daughter, Becky Rasor and husband, Bill of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughter-in-law, Helen Wood of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Brent Wood and wife, Ina of California, Jim Wood also of California, Lisa Wood of Ohio, Will Rasor and wife, Kim of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Ann Rasor of Arlington, Virginia; great grandchildren, Tara, Heather, Matthew, Cory Wood and Quinn Rasor; and several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy Wood; son, Ernest W. Wood; brother, Lawrence Wood and sister, Marie Hatch. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 21, 2004 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Dr. Neill Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund; 1800 W. Hunt, McKinney, Texas 75069.
