Emma Gene Shirley, age 81, of Wills Point, Texas, formerly of McKinney, Texas, passed away October 31, 2014. Emma was born January 18, 1933, in McKinney, Texas, to George and Ivy (Hamm) Rutledge. She married H. B. Shirley in 1964. Emma was a nurse for over twenty years for various nursing facilities in McKinney, Greenville, and Wills Point. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lang of Wills Point, Texas; sons, Ricky Hendricks of Blue Ridge, Texas, Charles Hendricks, Earl Hendricks, and Gordon Hendricks, all of Willis Point, Texas, and Tim Shirley of LaGrange, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, George R. Rutledge and Eddie Ray Rutledge, both of McKinney, Texas; sisters, Inez Flanagan and Aunt Bob McGuffey, both of McKinney; step-daughters, Elizabeth Chapman of Waynesboro, Mississippi and Janie Brooks of Garland, Texas; step-sons, Garon Shirley of Cartwright, Texas, Lewis Shirley of Garland, Texas, H. B. Shirley, Jr. of Mayflower, Texas, Perry Shirley of Leesburg, Texas, John Shirley of Perryville, Texas, and David Shirley of Leesburg, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Loretta Bridges, son, Richard Hendricks, sister, Bernice Williams, brother, Roy Lee Rutledge, and step-sons, Jimmy Shirley, Mack Shirley, Joe Shirley, and Robert Shirley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
