Elvin ‘David’ Mitchell, of Allen, Texas, passed away October 10, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born on September 6, 1936, in Dallas, Texas to Elvin Dewitt Mitchell and Alice Virginia (Allbritton) Mitchell. David married Helen Florence Curtis on February 22, 1957, in Dallas, Texas. He was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Allen, Texas where he served as a Deacon.

He will be remembered as a godly Christian, humble man, devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, selfless friend, patient mentor, expert fisherman, Gunsmoke megafan, Gas Monkey enthusiast, and lover of bologna sandwiches, biscuits & gravy and Helen’s famous banana pudding.

David is survived by daughters, Susan Kalash and husband, Jim of Rockwall, Texas, and Lysa Richey of Fairview, Texas; dearest friend, Charles Miller and wife, Heather of Sachse, Texas; Marsha Wallesch of Allen, Texas, and Robert Richey of Fairview, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy J. Mitchell of Kaufman, Texas, Donald Mitchell and wife June of Mesquite, Texas, and Richard Mitchell and wife Diane of Terrell, Texas; sisters, Velma Pearl Hathcox and husband Harvey of Streetman, Texas, Joyce Rodgers of Forney, Texas, Margaret Carter and husband Herman of Corsicana, Texas, Pauline Fay Collins and husband Robert of Platteville, Colorado, Mary Andrews and husband Jim of Corsicana, Texas, Ruby Starcher and husband Tom of Waco, Texas, and Sarah Covert and husband Chuck of Corsicana, Texas; and sister-in-law Marilyn Mitchell Pinkerton and husband Bill of Corsicana, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Helen Mitchell (2013); parents, Elvin and Alice Mitchell; brother, Paul Ray Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Helen Ruth Mitchell and Ruth Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Jim Rodgers.  

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2242 W. Lucas Road, Allen, Texas, 75002 and will be simultaneously broadcast online at cbclucas.com. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 S. Central Expressway, Allen,Texas 75013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church Broadcast Ministry, 2242 W. Lucas Road, Allen, Texas, 75002.
