Elizabeth "Ray" Ragsdale

Elizabeth Ray Ragsdale of McKinney died Friday, March 3, in Van Alstyne, Texas. She was born in McKinney November 13, 1929 to Virginia E. Lucas Ragsdale and Aaron Frank Ragsdale. She graduated from McKinney’s old Boyd High School in 1948 and attended North Texas State College and University of Oklahoma. Her family owned Lucas Studio of Mckinney for 40 years. Called “Ray” and "Rasie" by her family and friends, she moved to California in the mid 1950s and worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for over thirty years. She was an administrator in dam building and river maintenance. She retired in 1984 and moved back to Texas. Ray is survived by her cousins, Mary Virginia Holcomb Dickerson of McKinney, Joyce Bush Coe and husband, Don of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mary Lee Turner and husband, Jack of Abilene. She is also survived by Mary’s daughter, Liz Hogan and husband, Mike and their children Lauren and Bradley, who thought of Rasie as their special auntie. Joyce’s daughter Gaby Hanson and husband, Tom and their daughter Ashton of Chicago also survive. She will be missed by many other surviving relatives and family friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousin Jim Ragsdale, aunt Loie Holcomb and uncle Tully B. Lucas, Jr. of McKinney. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church of McKinney, 2000 W. White Ave., with Pastor John Blacklock and Rev. Jim Benton officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch, P.O. Box 552, Utopia, Texas 78884.
