Elizabeth Ann Bush Kelly Roberts of McKinney, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006, in McKinney, Collin County, Texas. She was 95 years old. Elizabeth Ann Bush was born March 27, 1911, in McKinney, Collin County, Texas daughter, of William Nelson Bush (1886-1959) and Roberta Iris Farrar (1886-1975). Her great grandfather Captain William Nelson Bush served in the Confederate Army in 1862, and was Sheriff of Collin County from 1870 to 1874. Captain Bush and Elizabeth Rainey moved to Texas from Clarke Co., Kentucky and were original settlers of Allen, Texas. Elizabeth’s grandfather James Nelson Bush (1857-1908) and grandmother Nettie Ola Scott (1867-1926) were landowners and bankers in Allen and both families are buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery. Elizabeth was married first to John William Kelly (1906-1944) who died in the Pacific Area during World War II, and second to Congressman Herbert Ray Roberts (1913-1992). Mrs. Roberts lived in Austin, Texas during the years of 1954 to 1961 when then Senator Roberts served as a member of the Senate of the State of Texas. She later lived in Washington D.C. (1962-1981) when Congressman H. Ray Roberts represented the 4th Congressional District of Texas. She was a member of the Texas Senate Ladies Club in Austin, Texas, and the Congressional Wives Club in Washington, D.C. During those years Elizabeth displayed her Hawaiian quilts at the Woodlawn Plantation annual quilt show in Alexandria, Virginia, and won First and Second Place. Elizabeth is a member of the John Abston Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution , and has six proven Revolutionary ancestors. She is a descendant of Thomas Jefferson I, and former member of Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. During World War II she served as a Grey Lady at the Veterans Administration Hospital in McKinney. She is member of the First United Methodist Church of Mckinney. Elizabeth Ann Bush is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Ann Kelly Murray, two grandchildren, Commander Kathryn Kelly Murray Oakeley, United States Navy of Alexandria, Virginia and Tom Reed Murray III of Richmond, Virginia. She has four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Maria Oakeley, her namesake, and William Field Oakeley, Tom Reed Murray IV and Conner Patrick Murray. She is survived by the descendants of her sister, Loubell Bush Byrd (1907-1990) and niece Betsy Byrd Culp (1940-1996) and grand-niece Catherine Ann Culp Resnick, grand-nephew, Thomas William Culp, Jr., great-grand niece Hanley Ann Resnick and Lauren Nicole Culp, and great-grand nephews, Thomas William Culp III and Cameron Christian Culp, all of San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2006, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Jack Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Heard-Craig Home, 205 West Hunt Street; McKinney, Texas 75069.
