Edythe Weaver Weiner

Edythe was born on June 24, 1921 to Cletus and Abram Weaver in Windber, PA. She died on September 17, 2012 in Richardson, TX. Edythe was the fifth of ten children and grew up on the family dairy farm with her brothers and sisters helping with the numerous duties of farm life including the growing of grains, fruits and vegetables and milking of the cows. Edythe graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Manchester College in Indiana. She began teaching elementary school in 1944 during World War II. Edythe worked for the National Office the Church of the Brethren in Elgin, IL. Edythe then became the Director of Christian Education and Youth Director of the First Church of the Brethren in Chicago, IL while she earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Education at Bethany Seminary in Chicago, IL. While Edythe was at the First Church of the Brethren she met her future husband, Arthur Weiner, who was working as a Professional Scouter in Chicago with the Boy Scouts of America. They married in March 1952 and just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They had two sons, David and Terry who later became Eagle Scouts. While living in the Chicago area, Edythe taught school in Lyons and LaGrange Park, IL. Art, an executive with the BSA, moved the family to Princeton, NJ in 1962 to join the National Staff of the BSA. Edythe taught school for 18 years in the Princeton area. The Weiners then relocated to Dallas, TX in 1979 when the BSA moved the entire BSA National Staff to Irving, TX. Edythe then taught school in the Richardson ISD and retired from teaching in 1988. Art and Edythe were charter members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Plano, TX, where Edythe served on the Executive and Administrative Boards and was the Director of Christian Education. Edythe and Art served as Lay Leaders to the North Texas Methodist Conference for many years. Prior to her death, Edythe lived with her husband for four years at Highland Springs retirement community in Dallas, TX. Edythe is predeceased by her son David, sisters Evelyn Sergott, Verna Knupp, Gladys Weaver and Marian Bell, brothers, Emmert Weaver and Kenneth Weaver and brother-in-law Ralph Weiner. Edythe is survived by her husband Art, son Terry and his wife Kimberly of Plano, TX, grandson Peter Joel, granddaughter Jill Dawson and her husband David of Carrollton, TX, granddaughter Joanna Webb Weiner of McKinney, TX, grandson Jarrett Wedd Weiner of McKinney, TX and great grandson Oliver Dawson. Edythe is also survived by her sisters Virginia Fegley and husband Kenneth of W. Brandywine, PA, Esther Shoup and husband Mahlon of Ellington, CT, brother Edwin Weaver of Huntsville, AL, numerous nieces nephews and a host of dear friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Highland Springs, the Wellington Home, and Art for their loving care and support of Edythe.
