Edwin Odell Caraway

Edwin Odell Caraway was born January 11, 1926 at Westminster, Texas to Arthur Caraway and Maude Mae Hunter Caraway.  He married Patty Cowling on September 17, 1949. Together they raised their two children. He died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 86. He was a resident of Whitewright, Texas.

Odell proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army during World War II. During his service, he fought in Europe at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart. Odell with his brother Jim owned and operated Caraway Exxon Station in Whitewright for over 50 years. He was a Master Mason, a member and Past Master of the Whitewright Masonic Lodge AF&AM #167. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Worthy Patron. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Patricia Caraway Dennie and husband Doug of Whitewright; granddaughter, Melody Singleton and Justin Bachman of Bonham; grandsons, Tony Dennie of Plano; Chris Webster of Muenster; great-grandchildren, Natalie Simpson, Jacob Simpson, Elizabeth Webster, Rick Dennie and Clara Dennie; step-grandchildren, Doug and Gracia Dennie; Bryan and Elayna Dennie; sister, Ina Williams of Sherman; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Dolores Sweet. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Edwin Caraway; parents; brothers, Jim Caraway, Dennie Caraway, Jack Caraway, Joe Phillips, Loyd Phillips; sisters, Minnie Belew, Mary Phillips, Hortense Phillips.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Houston Garner. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers will be Bill Stone, Bo Clark, Bob Purdom, Steven Meeks, Boyd Garner, and Archie Adams. Masonic Rites will be performed at graveside. Military Honors will be performed by U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Hood, Texas.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Wednesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 6-8pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.
