Edward "Sandy" Spurgin

Edward (Sandy) R. Spurgin, 89, of Lucas Texas, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at Medical Center of McKinney. Sandy was born July 16, 1921 to Ollie and Elizabeth Spurgin in Winningkoff, Texas. Sandy worked for Massey Ferguson, Chrysler Boat and Stewart Engineering. He retired in 1982. He loved farming and in addition to his regular job he was a lifelong farmer in the Lucas community. He married Irmajean Wise on July 18, 1948 in McKinney Texas and they were devoted to one another for 62 years. He was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church for 60 years serving his Lord as a Church Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth leader and Teacher. Mr. Spurgin is survived by his wife Jean Spurgin of Lucas; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Skip Allcorn of Denton; daughter-in-law, Joan Spurgin of Greenville; Grandchildren Matt Cupit, Joseph Spurgin, and Jessica Spurgin; Great granddaughters Lilly and Zoe Cupit and Erin Forsythe-Spurgin. Mr. Spurgin is also survived by 5 brothers, Buck, Cotton, Truman, Billy and Dale Spurgin and one sister, Marie Phelps. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Basil Ray and Jeffrey Lynn Spurgin; two brothers Nobel and Jack Spurgin and one sister, Velda Copus. Services will be held Monday, April 4, 2011, 2 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, 2525 Central Expressway N., Allen, TX 75013, officiated by Brandon A. Bradley, Sr., Minister of Hillcrest Christian Church and Keith Spurgin, pastor of New Hope Christian Church. Interment will follow at Pecan Grove cemetery in McKinney, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow.
