Edward Houston “Hoot” Self passed away in his home on July 10, 2014. He was born in McKinney, Texas on October 16, 1933. Houston served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. He worked for Kraft Foods for thirty-eight years. He was an active member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church for over fifty years where he served as a deacon. Houston enjoyed farming and raising animals. He was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Houston is survived by his wife Mary Lois Tomberlin-Self; daughter, Brenda Self Vaughan and husband Randy; son, David Self and wife Tara Williams Self; grandchildren, Brandi Vaughan, Keith Vaughan and wife Madelyn, Jordan and Jared Self; brothers, Marvin Self and Gerald Self; and other numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elija and Julia Self and brother, Kenneth Self.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Lowry Crossing. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
