Dr. John D. Polus

Dr. John D. Polus, age 70, of McKinney, Texas passed away August 6, 2005, at his home. He was born September 11, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio to John Edward and Jennie (Guziolek) Polus. He was a graduate of Macomber High School in Toledo. On June 13, 1959, he married Joan Gryczewski in Toledo. He received a BSEE and MSES from the University of Toledo, a MSEE from the University of Tennessee and his PHD from Bowling Green State University. Prior to his retirement, he served as Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at Purdue University and was Professor Emeritus in Electrical Engineering. He also served as Professor and Head of the Engineering Departments for Rockford College in Illinois and Owens Technical College in Toledo, Ohio. Additionally, he was an Instructor of Electrical Engineering for the University of Toledo and the University of Tennessee. Dr. Polus was the Design Engineer for Helm Instrument located in Toledo, and an engineer for WTOL Radio and Television and Warren Radio. Additional achievements include being a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, and a Registered Professional Engineer for the State of Ohio. He was also a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Joan G. Polus of McKinney; son, John E. Polus II and wife, Debra of McKinney; daughter, Barbara P. Howell and husband, Dwaine of Stephenville, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Mastic, John Drew, Molly, Emma, Callie, Nicholas, Daniel and Jennie Polus, Lara Felger, Leigh Wilson, Colby Howell and Hayley Howell. Funeral services will be held a 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Tim Church officiating. A rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas with visitation following. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund, 1515 N. Greenville Ave., Allen, Texas 75002.
