Douglas Randolph Nelson

Douglas Randolph Nelson, 77, of Plano, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early on the morning of July 9, 2015. He courageously suffered with Alzheimer’s disease and was cared for by his loving, faithful wife, Marguerite, who was by his side until the end. Doug was born January 27, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Randolph and Margaret Nelson. He graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota in 1955. Doug served in the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1963. He attended the University of Oklahoma, was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and graduated with a degree in Business. Doug married his bride, Marguerite, on July 20, 1963. They made homes in Richfield and Bloomington, Minnesota, Phoenix, Arizona, and Plano, Texas. Doug had a flourishing career in the real estate, title business, and retired in 2003. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending Oklahoma Sooner football games, playing golf, watching sporting events, traveling, and five-star dining. Doug loved to visit Hawaii. He was a member of the Saint Mark’s Catholic Church in Plano and attended mass daily with his wife.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Marguerite Nelson; daughter, Stephanie Lovelace; son, Greg Nelson and wife, Michele; grandchildren, Brittany Bay and husband, Jeremy, Lindsay Lovelace, Johnny Lovelace, Allie Nelson, Audrey Nelson, and Michael Nelson; great-grandson, Brodie Mullins; brother, Steve Nelson and wife, Barbara of Edina Minnesota; and his beloved fifteen year old Shih Tzu, Maggie, who was by his side until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Jeffrey Nelson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2015, at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Drive, Plano, Texas, 75075 with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
