Dorris Ann Slack, age 88, of McKinney, Texas, passed away December 23, 2014. She was born September 27, 1926, in Collinsville, Texas, to Rev. E.T. and Willie B. (Timbs) Smith. Dorris met Ed Slack while he was attending the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After dating for three months, they were married on March 24, 1950 and were married for 60 years. Dorris was a member of First Christian Church in McKinney. She was a graduate of Texas Women’s University and was a school teacher for 7 years in Plano, Texas. Dorris was a member of the Owl Forum in McKinney and loved to play bridge and travel.
She is survived by her children, Edward Monroe Slack, III of The Colony, Texas, Linda Slack Dugger of McKinney and Dr. James Russell Rogers and wife Patsy of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Dugger, Katie Wells and husband Richard, Emily Yonkin and husband Tres, Allison Spears and husband John, Kirk Rogers and wife Marci; great-granchchildren, Claire Rogers, Brooks Wells, Wilson Spears and one on the way; brother, Col. Harold Smith of San Antonio, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Dorris is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. E.T. and Willie B. Smith; husband, Dr. Ed Slack; first husband, James Rogers; brothers, Solan Smith, Cary Smith, Paul Smith and Jerry Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home.
