Funeral Services for Dorothy Faye Newby Smith, 74 year old Leonard resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday March 7, 2012 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Rev. David Riley and Rev. Terry O'Toole will officiate. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday March 6, 2012 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Mrs. Smith was born January 1, 1938 at McKinney. Her parents were Harold Richard and Ruby Dee Walters Newby. She married Gary Lynn Smith August 1, 1972 at Rockwall. Her husband is a recently retired rural mail carrier working out of Leonard. She was a member of the Blanton Chapel Methodist Church and she worked at the Leonard SNAP Center and the Trenton Community Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 at her residence after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband: Gary Smith of Leonard; her sons: Stephen Alexander of Leonard, Ronald Alexander of Bonham and Jeff Alexander of Leonard; her daughter: Barbara Hanson of Garland; her sisters: Ann Shelton of Pasadena, Linda Feagan of Honey Grove, Joy Thornhill of Anna and Anita Hinson of Leonard; her brother: Tommy Newby of Princeton. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many others that she basically "adopted" as her own. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Feagan and Sharon Clark, and one brother, Billy Joe Newby.
