On November 12, 2012 Dorothy Aliene House passed away to join her waiting Lord and Savior after a lingering illness. She was born April 27, 1927, the oldest of 12 children to Ora "Ted" and Norene Barnes in Warsaw, Missouri.
Aliene is survived by daughter Sandy (Bob) Harris, of Celina, Texas; son Randy (Linda) House of Spokane, Washington; and son Max Alan (Wendy) House of Gulf Shores, Alabama. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Tim (Judy) Halls of Plano, Texas; Greg (Christie) Halls of Terre Haute, Indiana; Kimberly (Grant) Goins of Roseburg, Oregon; Karri (Cesar) Menendez of Seattle, Washington; Kristi (Dan) Addis of Vancouver, Washington; Christian (Alexandra) House of Defiance, Ohio; and Michelle (Micah) MacDowall of Las Vegas, Nevada; and 8 great grandchildren. Aliene is also survived by siblings Fay, Logan, Benny, Martha, Ralph, Owen, Jerry, and Ruby and by countless friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Max, parents, two brothers, and one sister.
The Barnes family relocated to Bozeman, Montana, for a few years where Aliene met and married Max E House February 26, 1946. Upon Max’s discharge from the Navy, they made their home in Livingston, Montana, built Max’s Upholstery family business, and raised their family together. Aliene was an active member of Livingston’s Grace United Methodist Church, ladies bowling and golf leagues, and various other community organizations. She was an accomplished homemaker and woman of the kitchen. Many, many copies of her recipes have gone to family and friends, but no one can yet quite master her chicken ‘n homemade noodles.
Dearest to her heart were her family and her friendships. She was an avid letter writer; was Max’s right hand gal in their upholstery business; could crochet, knit, and sew beautifully; enjoyed daily walks, cokes, and a quick visit with friends; and loved family gatherings and filling picture albums with memories of all the get togethers.
In their retirement years, Max and Aliene wintered in southern California and eventually moved fulltime to Hemet, California. After her dear partner of 60 years passed away in 2006, Aliene moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, to be near her daughter Sandy. After the 2007 death of Sandy’s husband Cliff Halls, Aliene and Sandy moved to the Dallas area where Aliene resided until her death.
Her family and all who knew Aliene will greatly miss her friendly sweet spirit, her caring ways, and infectious laughter. She has been a treasure as a daughter and sister, wife and mom, grandma and great grandma, and as friend and neighbor. We can all know a warm “welcome home” awaits us when we join her one day.
The family requests that any donations be sent to their local Hospice or Alzheimer's Association. She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in Montana in the summer of 2013. Her ashes will be buried next to her late husband Max.
