IN LOVING MEMORY

Dorothy Jeanne Fullerton

Aug 07 1918 - Dec 31 2011

Dorothy Jeanne Fullerton, age 93, of Bonham, Texas and formally of Leonard, Texas, passed away Saturday December 31, 2011 in Bonham. Funeral Services will be Monday January 9, 2012 at the Leonard Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. with family visitation at 10:00 A.M. at Turrentine Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard. Charles Wren will officiate. Dorothy was born August 7, 1918 in York, Nebraska to John William Berger and Ida May Murray Berger. At age 10, Dorothy’s Mother died and she lived with her oldest sister Catherine Fox and her husband Roy. During Dorothy’s teens, she, her sister and Roy moved to Burbank, CA in 1936. Dorothy moved to Leonard, Texas in 1977 to be near her Son. In May of 1978, she married Lewis Fullerton and they lived a fulfilling life in Leonard. While living in Leonard, Dorothy became very active in the Community enjoying activities and service in the Golden Age Club, PTL, Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, Librarian, and especially Friends of the Library. She was the first Woman Leonard Citizen of the Year in 1984 and the Northeast Texas Library System Librarian of the year in 1989. The creation and establishment of the Leonard Library in 1983 was her first love and made a full circle teenage dream of becoming a Librarian come true much later in life. The Library was her loving project which she pitched in to get started and included becoming a carpenter and jack-of-all-trades repairman to get the Library up and going. Through the establishment of the Friends of the Library Club and numerous fund raisers, the Library was begun in an old building on the west side of the Leonard Square. In later years, a new Library was built on the East side of the Leonard Square and was dedicated to Dorothy after she retired with 14 years of being the Leonard Librarian. Once asked what she got paid for being a Librarian, she said “it only cost me about $60 a week”. Mrs. Fullerton is survived by her Son Gene Fox and wife Brenda of Bonham, daughter Nora Ottaviano and husband Frank of Glendale, CA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 siblings, and a daughter, Diane Egemo.
