IN LOVING MEMORY

Donnie Bill Mayfield

Mar 29 1938 - Feb 19 2015

It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts we write to let you know our longtime colleague and friend, Donnie Mayfield, age 76 of Prosper, Texas has passed away February 19, 2015 in Frisco, Texas, after a brief illness. He was born March 29, 1938 in Allen, Texas to Russell and Mae (O’Brient) Mayfield. Donnie was first hired as a building-health inspector for the City of Frisco in January of 1993.  On paper, he ‘retired’ in April of 2014. Nevertheless, as many of you know, Donnie remained a Frisco fixture at City Hall to this day. After retirement, Donnie continued assisting Frisco as a contractor providing invaluable expertise in building construction and project management services on several city projects including the Multi-Use Event Center. However, Donnie’s service to the City of Frisco began nearly four decades earlier. Donnie began serving as a volunteer firefighter in 1954 and rose through the ranks.  He served as Frisco Fire Chief from 1967 -1970. The following year, Donnie became a member of the Frisco City Council, serving from 1971 to 1972 and again in 1986 to 1987. When the City of Frisco ‘officially’ hired Donnie in 1993, building and health inspection duties were the responsibility of the Frisco Fire Department. He was promoted to Chief Building Official in Development Services in 1999. He served in that role during Frisco’s phenomenal construction boom before becoming Project Manager in 2007. Mayor Maso has ordered city flags be lowered to recognize Donnie’s longtime service to the City of Frisco and its residents. “We will always remember Donnie for hisintegrity, expertise and longtime service to our city. But we’ll also remember Donnie as a man who helped build this city, one he loved so much and his family called home for generations. Donnie’s know-how of the construction industry was invaluable to councils, past and present. His thumbprints are all over this city. He was a trusted colleague, a real character and a friend. Our condolences go to Donnie’s wife Gerry and the rest of the Mayfield family during this challenging time.  We will miss him,” said Mayor Maso.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gerry Mayfield of Prosper, Texas; daughters, Gerry Ann Webb and husband James of Prosper, Texas and Terry Sue Mayfield Davis of Frisco, Texas; sons, Chris Mayfield and wife Cindy of Center, Texas and Rusty Mayfield of Prosper, Texas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mae Mayfield; sisters, Jean Croley and Dorothy Acuff; brother, Houston “Sonny” Calverley.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship 4331 E. Prosper Trail, Prosper, Texas 75078. Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco, Texas. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church.
