Donna Jeanette McCraw

Mrs. Jeanette McCraw a fifth generation Texas and Life long resident of Collin County, went home to her Lord on Friday, October 29,2010 at the age of 94. Jeanette was born in Copeville, Texas on February 4, 2916.  She was the daughter of Dr. C.A. Corry and Margie Yeary Corry and great granddaughter of Captain John Yeary and Rev. Moses Jones some of the early founders of Farmersville, Texas.

Jeanette graduated as salutatorian from Farmersville High School in 1932.  After her freshman year at CIA (now Texas Women's University), she transferred to the University of Texas at Austin from which she graduated in 1936.  At Texas(THE university as she fondly colled it), Jeanette joined Delta Delta Delta Soroity, and orginization she loved and served the remainder of her life, including as National Scholarship Chairman and two terms as National Vice President.  She was active in all Phases of church and civic activities including teaching in Sunday School and served as a scout leader.  She served on the Financial and Historical Committees and as an officer in various civic organizations, which led to her being recognized as a Texas Woman of Distinction and listed in the Who's Who of American Women.  She loved genealogical research and was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Huguenot Society, the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century; the Magna Carta Dames, and the Jamestown Society.  When the Collin County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized she became a charter member amd later served as Rebgent and President of the Dallas Area Regents Council. 

She taught school at Copeville, Hot Springs, Arkansas and Austin College.  In 1936, Jeanette married John Lindsley McCraw of Farmersville who owned and operated two candy manufacturing companies, McCraw Candies and Sugar Hill Foods.  He was also a partner in Cello-Wrap Printing Company.  Early in their marriage, Jeanette taught school, but she left that behind to become a full time mother when their two children, John Jr. and Marjorie Elizabeth ( Betsy) were born. 

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, John.  She leaves behind a full and rich family legacy, Son, Judge John L McCraw Jr. and sife Charlotte; daugher Betsy McCraw Gantt and her husband Robert; six grandchidren and their spouses; John L. (Lin) McCraw III and wife Suzy; Mark McCraw and wife, Piper; Katherine McCraw Gore and husband, Keith; Chris McCraw and wife, Christi; Bryan Gantt and wife, Karen; Glenn Gantt and wife, Kami; 10 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters.
