DONALD EUGENE SCHONHOFF. August 23, 1944-May 11, 2011. Donald E. Schonhoff, 66, a resident of Richardson, TX, died on May 11, 2011 after a courageous 17 year battle with stage 4 renal cell cancer. Born on August 23, 1944, to Andrew Henry and Clara Wand Schonhoff, Don was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois before settling his family in Texas. Married on June 25, 1966, to Mary Josephine Kendall, Don was a graduate of Quincy College and Notre Dame Law School. Don spent time with the FBI, before becoming a private investigator for over 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout, an ordained minister, a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mark’s Catholic Church, a loving father, and a faithful friend. Don will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; his brother Richard D. Schonhoff (Lorraine Schonhoff); and his five children Sarah Knight (Aaron Webb) of McKinney, Texas; Matt Schonhoff (Patty Schonhoff) of McKinney, Texas; Chris Schonhoff (Delaine Schonhoff) of Little Elm, Texas; Betsy Schonhoff of Austin, Texas; and Katie Schonhoff of Aledo, Texas. He will also be affectionately missed by his nine grandchildren, Ryan Schonhoff, Alison Schonhoff, Cody Schonhoff, Collin Schonhoff, Jackson Schonhoff, Kaitlyn Knight, Juliet Schonhoff, Mikayla Knight, and Jefferson Schonhoff. The family would like to thank the many caregivers that have walked alongside of us for the past 17 years and the family and friends that have provided unwavering support. Don has touched the lives of many people through his generosity and giving spirit. Those who witnessed his love for Jesus Christ were inspired by his unwavering faith and testimony of God's grace. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, May 15 at 6 pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, located at Highway 75 and Exit 38 - Ridgeview Drive in McKinney, Texas, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Plano, Texas with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don's name to Hettie Lue Brooks Ministries, Inc., 431 Brooks Lane, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71909.
