Don S. Schmidt, age 56, of Denton, went home to Jesus November 14, 2009 in Dallas. Born July 14, 1953, in Ft. Worth, to Curtis Sterling and Mary Allene Schmidt. Don married Beverly Marie Atkinson on November 19, 1981, in Coleman, Texas. Don was a clerk with the U. S. Postal Service, in Richardson, Texas, for over twenty-seven years. He was a member of the Denton Chapter of the DAV, the NRA, and was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast. Don proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; son, Justin Schmidt and wife, Cara of Mesquite; daughter, Ashlyn Schmidt Hughes of Denton; grandson, Braeden Sterling Hughes; sister, Mary Ann Fairchild and husband, Kenny of Abilene; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his best friend and brother, Willie Stewart and Sherry of Teague. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2009, at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, 4830 W. Illinois Ave, Dallas, Texas 75211. Interment will take place at 12:00 Noon, Friday, November 20, 2009 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
