David Robert Alvarez, age 73, of Frisco, Texas passed away on March 24, 2017. He was born on November 10, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Myrtle Ruby (Schumann) and Louis Alvarez. On September 26, 1986, David married Janet Volpe in Dallas, Texas. David was an Engineering Manager contributing to early innovations in printed circuit board and memory chip design at Mostek Memory Systems who then decided to open his own business Micromat, where all of his sons worked with him. He retired as an Engineering Manager for Nortel.
David loved fly fishing in his secret spot in Washington State and bone fishing on his son's island in Belize. His hometown of New Orleans had a special place in his heart. He loved tinkering around in the garage and his office on one of the many projects he had going at all times. He loved building and flying his airplanes. He enjoyed many activities in their retirement community where he was a proud member of the Liars Club and a green thumb at his garden plot with the Garden Club. He also enjoyed building and sailing model boats and could often be found at the hot tub relaxing. David loved his wife, Jan and his family wholeheartedly and spending time with them gave him such immense joy. He was always there for you when you needed advice or to laugh at his dry sense of humor. Especially if you wanted him to grill up the most delicious steaks you had ever tasted or boil some crawfish. He was a man of many talents and interests and words just can not do justice to the life he lived. He will be so greatly missed.
David is survived by his wife, Janet; five children, David Robert Alvarez, Jr. and his wife, Erika, Daniel Frank Alvarez and his wife, Julie, Jonathan Louis Alvarez and his fiancé, Jillian, Todd Steven Wedge and his wife, Deborah and Thomas Jay Wedge; God-son, Michael Robert Richardson and his wife, Kelly; eight grandchildren; mother, Myrtle Alvarez; three siblings, Louis Alvarez and his wife, Faith, Ronald Alvarez and his wife, Linda and Linda Gilmore and her husband, Rick; former spouse, Christina Church Alvarez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
David is preceded in death by his father, Louis Alvarez.
A Memorial Service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Saturday, April 8, 2017 beginning at 4:00 PM.
