David James Hanssen

David James Hanssen, age 63, of Prosper, Texas passed away on February 1, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on August 15, 1950 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Ethel Mae (Hansen) and Henry Carl Hanssen. On April 26, 1980, David married Marion “Beth” Elizabeth Vieth in Dallas, Texas. David was a well respected Electrical Engineer in the telecommunication industry and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton.

David was confirmed in his Christian faith at age fourteen and graduated from Garland High School in 1968. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a thoughtful, gentle and humble man who was dedicated to his wife and sons, and was thrilled with the arrival of grandchildren in his life. He enjoyed landscaping, tinkering with electronics, building with LEGOS, and drinking Dr. Pepper. He lived his faith daily and spent over fifteen years with the same Bible study group.

David is survived by his wife, Beth Hanssen of Prosper, Texas; two sons, Stephen Hanssen and his wife, Kelly of Austin, Texas, and Benjamin Hanssen and his wife, Alaina of McKinney, Texas; father, Henry Hanssen of Dickinson, North Dakota; two grandchildren, Claudia and James Hanssen; brother, Paul Hanssen and his wife, Miskey of Brandon, Florida; three sisters, Grace Gotoski of DeWitt, Iowa, Judith Hanssen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Laura Carlson and her husband, Mark of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Hanssen and brother, John Hanssen.

A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton, 2201 E. Hebron Parkway, Carrollton, Texas 75010, on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Richard Dunagin officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper. Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to First United Methodist Church for the planning of a prayer walk/garden at First Church in memory of David.
