Darrel Don Shepard

Darrel Don Shepard of Allen, Texas went to be with his Lord & Savior on July 20, 2014 at the age of 75.  He was born September 1, 1938 to Farrel Burton Shepard and Ruth (Kerran) Shepard in Custer City, Oklahoma.  Darrel married Deanna Ashlock on August 12, 1960 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Before residing in Allen, Darrel spent the majority of his life in Oklahoma.  He graduated college from Central State University in 1962, then continued his education by receiving his masters in Educational Administration from the University of Oklahoma.  He had a 32 year career with the Oklahoma City Public Schools, holding several positions before retiring as an Assistant Superintendent in 1997.  Darrel was also extremely active in civic affairs.  He served on The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Oklahoma, The Boy Scouts of America, OKC Beautiful and the North Oklahoma City Rotary Club (past President).  He was a long time member of Britton Christian Church, serving various positions including Elder and Chairman of the Board.  Afflicted with Crohn's Disease, he also served as both National Vice-President & Treasurer of the United Ostomy Association. After retiring, he and his wife moved to the Lake Texoma area.He is survived by his wife, Deanna Shepard of Allen, Texas; son, Steve Shepard and wife Denise of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Garrett, Sarah, Keaton and Luke Shepard all of Allen, Texas; sister, Kerran Williams and husband Allan of Granbury, Texas and brother, John Shepard and wife Verna of Blue Springs, Missouri.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Farrel and Ruth Shepard; sisters, Kay Cosby and Cora Marie Shepard.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2014 at First United Methodist Church Allen, 601 S. Greenville Ave, Allen, Texas 75002.  Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Masonic Cemetery, Custer City, Oklahoma. 

Memorials in honor of Darrel can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
