Col. Richard Wendell Martin, age 82, of Allen, Texas passed away November 22, 2006, in McKinney, Texas. He was born September 29, 1924, in Nashville, Tennessee to George and Oma Olna (Ott) Martin. On July 1, 1950, he married Barbara Kennedy in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Col. Martin retired from the U.S. Army. Following his retirement with the Army, he was an engineer for Dowell and the U.S. Department of Energy. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Martin of Allen, Texas; children, Sherry Woods and husband, Benjamin of Florence, South Carolina, Paula Williamson of Denton, Texas, Nancy Griffin and husband, Lyle of McKinney, Texas, Diana Stambaugh and husband, Tom and Richard W. Martin, Jr. and wife, Freda all of Allen, Texas and Bobbie Martin of Frisco, Texas; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Martin of Portland, Oregon and David Martin of Wichita Falls, Texas. His parents and sister, Virginia preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Allen with Rev. June Franck officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
