IN LOVING MEMORY

Clyde Brooks West

Jan 11 1932 - Jun 26 2016

Clyde Brooks West died June 26 at his home in Mesquite, TX, surrounded by his wife, children, grandson and other loved ones. He was 84. Brooks was born to Clarence and Odie West on January 11, 1932, amidst the Great Depression in Copeville, TX, where he learned the value of hard work from an early age by attending the livestock and crops on his family’s small farm and taking care of his disabled brother. He later instilled these same values, as well as those of integrity and honesty, in his own children. Brooks entered the Air Force in 1950 and went through basic training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio before shipping out to Nagoya, Japan, as a medic toward the end of the post-war occupation.  After 3-1/2 years abroad, he returned to Copeville and proposed to the love of his life, Ruby Nelcine Bowen, who would be by his side for the next 62 years.  After his service in the Air Force, Brooks made his career as a carpet-layer and was considered one of the best in his field in the Metroplex, while Nelcine worked in retail.  Together, they raised three children, and loved five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Before a stroke caused Brooks to slow down in 2009, he and Nelcine traveled the southern United States with friends and family and enjoyed experiencing different places.  Each night since his stroke, he thanked Nelcine for her love and dedication in caring for him. Nelcine is comforted by Brooks’ deep faith in God and knowing that his death was the beginning of a new life in heaven.  Brooks is survived by wife Nelcine; son Mike West and daughter-in-law Terri; daughter Pat Marshall and son-in-law Bill; son Scott West and grandson Jordan West; as well as four more grandchildren, Kristi, Kevin, Meili and Caleb, and one great-grandchild, Easton.  Visitation will be at 1 p.m., followed by funeral  services at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 La Prada Drive, Dallas, TX, 75228. Dr. Craig Christina will officiate  Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery in Copeville.  Hurst’s Fielder Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville is in charge of arrangements.
