Clifton Leon Johnston

Clifton “Cliff” Leon Johnston was born August 27, 1939 in McKinney, Texas to Leon and Edith Jenkins Johnston. When he was a young child his family moved to Southern California. He died at his home with his wife by his side on February 2, 2010. Cliff graduated from El Centro Union High School in El Centro, California in 1958. He later graduated from Imperial Valley College in El Centro. After college he began the journey to a long career in Law Enforcement becoming a Police Officer with the El Centro Police Department. After a brief time with the Police Department he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. When his tour of duty with the Air Force was complete, Cliff attended the California Highway Patrol Academy and began his 30 year journey as a California Highway Patrolman. He retired from CHP in 1993. It was a job that he truly loved. After retiring, Cliff moved back to Texas to be close to family, and set up home in Whitewright. He spent his retirement years traveling with the love of his life, his wife Wanda; learning to fly small airplanes and became an Ordained Minister. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Whitewright. He is survived by wife, Wanda Johnston of Whitewright; son, Todd Bowser Johnston of Honolulu, Hawaii; uncle, Marvin Jenkins; aunt, Pauline Hurt; aunt, Corine Bell; aunt, LaVerne Moore and husband Leon; uncle, Ruffus Rose and wife Gene; aunt, Rosemary Johnston; uncle, Dr. Wesley and Vida Owens; numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Emil Johnston, Claude Johnston and wife Pam; and aunt Uleta Johnston. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 6, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Spencer Sprayberry, Rev. Van Lazaroff and Rev. Eric Rothe. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery in Allen, Texas. Pallbearers will be Calvin Moore, Dennis Moore, Steve Stanley, Chris Johnston, Mark Johnston, and Gary Hurt. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 12:00pm until service time at the First United Methodist Church in Whitewright.
