Cheryl Anne Huisman

Cheryl Anne Huisman of Irving, Texas passed away January 28, 2012. She has been a resident of Irving since 2006. Cheryl was born July 15, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa. She attended Morningside College, University of South Dakota and Iowa State University; receiving a Masters and ultimately Specialist Degree in education administration. Cheryl retired after having served as Senior Director for the North Hills Charter School and Uplift Education and a school administration placement consultant. She is survived by her Mother, Cleah McManigal of Dallas; daughters, Christina Tuetken, husband Thomas and grandson Tyler of Victoria, Minnesota; Jacquelyn Huisman of Irving; brother, Tom McManigal, wife Melanie and nieces Heather and Megan of Plano. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Marlin McManigal. Cheryl spent her entire life in the field of education. As a teenager she shared her passion for baton twirling; ultimately owning her own studio which included gymnastics. She taught hundreds of young people, creating routines for individuals and groups who won multiple National Championships. She was sought out nationally as a twirling and drill team instructor. Cheryl began teaching in public schools in multiple disciplines and advanced from teacher to principal to school superintendant. Her dedication and passion for those she taught was only exceeded by her love for her family. A memorial service will be held, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4th at 11 am at St. Paul Presbyterian Church 6426 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, Iowa 50131. A private burial will be at Merle Hay Cemetery 4400 Merle Hay Road Des Moines, IA 50310.
