Cheri Danielle Malvern

Cheri Danielle Malvern, formerly of McKinney, Texas passed away December 15, 2011 in Arlington, Texas at the age of 28. She was born May 13, 1983 to Maurice R. Malvern, Sr. and Carrie Caliman George in Mineral Wells, Texas. Cheri attended McKinney High School prior to graduating from North Crowley High School. She was a student at University of Texas at Arlington. Cheri experienced some of her happiest times at Camp Jubilee. Camp Jubilee is a camp for kids ages 7 – 14 with a diagnosis of sickle cell disease. Cheri was a camper from 1990 – 1997. She attended Teen Retreat from 1998 – 2002. Cheri never forgot about her experiences at camp and vowed to come back as a counselor. In 2006, she did just that and last attended camp this year. She was an inspiration to younger campers and everyone enjoyed her spirit for life. Cheri touched the lives of so many people with her smile and generosity to help others. Cheri was a past pageant contestant in the Zeta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant held at University of Texas at Arlington. Although, Cheri did not win the crown, she swept every superlative award and even placed 1st runner up. After her experience as a pageant contestant, she felt her skills could be better used as a pageant coordinator. From, 2005-2011, she was the pageant coordinator for the Etta Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Texas Christian University. She was also a co-coordinator for the Rho Mu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Midwestern State University. Cheri was a member of Eastern Star, Chapter 1 in Dallas, Texas. Cheri accepted Christ at an early age as a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. She later moved her membership to Great Commission Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas, where her ministry was Sisters in Effect. She is survived by her son; Braylon Malvern of Arlington; mother, Carrie Caliman George of Fort Worth, Texas; father, Maurice R. Malvern, Sr. and stepmother LaTanya Malvern of McKinney; brothers, Maurice R. Malvern, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael R. Malvern of McKinney; sister, Amanda Malvern of Sherman, Texas; step-brothers Brad Wilson of McKinney, Marcus Wilson of Richardson; step-sister, Colandra Ashley of McKinney; grandmother, Iola L. Malvern of McKinney; host of relatives and friends Cheri was preceded in death by sister, Charlotte D. Malvern; grandfathers, Albert A. Malvern and Claire Caliman, Jr.; grandmother, Edna Caliman. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Great Commission Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Tuesday evening at 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Turrentine Jackson Morrow in McKinney, Texas.
