Charlotte Ruth Burson Linard

This is the day the Lord hath made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24. Charlotte Ruth Burson Linard, 80, former resident of New Philadelphia, OH, passed away peacefully in her home at 2307 Brookview Drive, McKinney, TX, on March 3, 2004, after a long and valiant fight with breast cancer. Her husband Delbert was lovingly by her side. Her life was a testimony of God’s love and power and the priorities of her life were God, her family and friends. Born in Dover, Ohio, May 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Simon Burson and Rachel Burson Shetler. Charlotte was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, McKinney, TX, and was a former faithful member of Ottebein Methodist Church, New Philadelphia, OH. She has been a longtime member of the Tuscarawas County Republican Party, having served for several years as county chairwoman representing the organization at state and national events. She had also been a member of the Tuscarawas County Republican Women, serving as its president at one time. She was the owner and operator of Charlotte’s Beauty Salon in New Philadelphia and served area residents for many years. She and husband, Delbert owned and operated Prince Motors in Dover, OH, where she served as secretary. In June of 2000, they relocated to McKinney, TX, to be nearer their family. She and Delbert were married in the parsonage of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, later known as the Otterbein First United Methodist Church, July 15, 1939, completing nearly 65 years of marriage. For a great part of her life Charlotte was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Her children and grandchildren who lovingly refer to her as Gigi will treasure her beautiful afghans for many years to come. She was adored and respected by her family and friends and will always be remembered for her smile, laughter and faith. It was often said to Charlotte that she never met a stranger. He husband, Delbert Linard, survives Charlotte. As a couple they were known for their loving devotion to each other and their friends and family. Their union produced two children, Linda (Jerry) Niuman, also of McKinney, TX, and Gary (Doris) Linard of New Philadelphia, OH. Her five grandchildren, Amy (Dan), Morgan, Michelle (Charlie) Patchen, Scott (Michelle) Linard, Jennifer (Robert) Sawey and Jeremy (Kriston) Niuman; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Billena Forte and Marjean Demuth will sadly miss her. A sister Margaret Smith and two brothers, Samuel and Walter Burson preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Wesley United Methodist Church, McKinney, TX, Monday, March 8, 2004, at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Putnam officiating. Interment will be 12:00 PM. prior to memorial service at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family requests that any memorial donations be directed to the American Cancer Society.
