Charles Evans Hughes, 74, of Whitewright, Texas, passed away on August 6, 2010, at the Medical Center of Plano surrounded by family and friends. Charles was born June 21, 1936 in Bonham, Texas to William Thomas Hughes and Gracie Gennettie Roberts. He married Frankie Jo Mathis on July 31, 1954 in Sherman, Texas. He is survived by wife, Frankie Hughes of Whitewright; two daughters: Joanna Savage and husband Michael of Whitewright and Sharon Burris of Sherman; sister, Mary Underwood, of Bonham; brother, Doye Hughes of Bonham; grandchildren: Ashlie Hill, Austin Savage, Sarah Savage, Brandon Riegle, Eddy Burris all of Whitewright; great grandchild, Alyssa Weil of Whitewright. He was preceded in death by his parents, many brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Justin Riegle. Charles owned and operated Hughes Implement of Whitewright for the past thirty years where he served the farmers of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Many of these farmers became good friends, and he valued the time he was able to spend getting to know them. Charles was a storyteller. Nothing pleased him more than having an audience and being able to recount the stories of his youth. He loved music and was musically gifted playing several different instruments with no formal training. His grandchildren treasure the memories of sitting around his feet listening to him play his guitar, banjo, violin, and harmonica. He was a devoted husband and spent the last five years as the sole caretaker of his wife Frankie. Charles was well loved and will be greatly missed by many.
